Diabetes Mellitus
The research study on Nishamalaki suggested that it provides significant glycemic control, which is comparable to TROGLITAZONE and GLYBURIDE.
Amalaki (Amla) in Nishamalaki has anti- hyperglycemic and anti-diabetic properties. According to study, it interferes with the absorption of the glucose and delays glucose entry in the blood. Thus, it prevents sudden spikes in glucose levels in the blood. Amla inhibits the action of disaccharidase enzyme, which exerts this action.
GALLIC ACID, GALLOTANNIN, ELLAGIC ACID, and CORILAGIN attribute the anti-diabetic property to the Amla. Furthermore, it has strong antioxidant action, which reduces and prevents the damage to pancreas due to oxidative stress. Amla is helpful for preventing diabetic complications as well.
Amla also acts as pancreas stimulant, which increases the secretion of insulin. This property of Amla has similarity with famous anti-diabetic drug – GLIBENCLAMIDE.
Haldi (Turmeric) in Nishamalaki also acts as anti-hyperglycemic and anti-diabetic. According to study, curcumin in Turmeric improves the functions of β-cells of pancreas.
