Chavikasavam

Chavikasavam improves appetite and promotes alleviation and prevention of excessive intestinal gas. It promotes proper digestion of food. It removes stickiness of stool and promotes good bowel movement.

Chavikasavam is used for the treatment of abdominal distension, flatulence, urinary disorders, common cold, allergic rhinitis, phthisis, cough, gout or hyperuricemia, hernia, loss of appetite, poor digestion, heaviness after food, and other abdominal diseases.

Pushkarmool (Elecampane) – Inula Racemosa 40 Parts
Vacha (Sweet Flag) – Acorus Calamus 40 Parts
Hauber (Common Juniper) – Juniperus Communis 40 Parts
Kachur (Zedoary) – Curcuma Zedoaria 40 Parts
Patolamoola (Pointed gourd) –  Trichosanthes Dioica 40 Parts
Haritaki or Harad (Chebulic Myrobalan) – Terminalia Chebula 40 Parts
Bibhitaki (Bahera) – Terminalia Bellirica 40 Parts

Water 8192 Parts
Prepare a decoction from all above herbal ingredients and 8192 Parts water. Reduce it to 1024 Parts liquid content/decoction. Then leave it for cooling. Filter the decoction. When decoction is slightly warm, add the following ingredients.
Gur – Jaggery 1200 Parts
Dhataki Flower- Woodfordia Fruticosa 80 Parts
Dalchini (Cinnamon) – Cinnamomum Zeylanicum 8 Parts
Elachi (Green Cardamom) – Elettaria Cardamomum 8 Parts
Tejpata (Indian Bay Leaf) – Cinnamomum Tamala 8 Parts
Nagkesar – Mesua Ferrea 8 Parts
Laung (Clove) – Syzygium Aromaticum 4 Parts
Sonth (Ginger Rhizome) – Zingiber Officinale 4 Parts
Kali Mirch (Black Pepper) – Piper Nigrum 4 Parts
Pippali (Long Pepper) – Piper Longum 4 Parts
Kankol (Sheetal Mirch) – Piper Cubeba 4 Parts
  1. After mixing these ingredients, seal the asava vessel with a clay-smeared cloth. Leave it for 30 days in Asava place.
  2. After 30 days, filter the liquid (Chavikasavam) and preserve it in food-grade bottles.

Dosha Karma

Chavikasavam has hot potency. It mainly reduces Kapha Dosha and pacifies Vata Dosha. It can increase Pitta Dosha, so it should not be used in cases and symptoms of increased or aggravated Pitta.
