Ayurvedic Oil for Pain Control

Prabhanjanavimardanam Thailam is an Ayurvedic oil based on the principles of Kerala Ayurveda and finds reference in Sahasrayoga Tailayoga Prakarana – 5. This therapeutic oil is used externally to give relief from abscess with pain, abdominal pain, back ache and hernia. The ingredients of Prabhanjanavimardanam Thailam are 25.6 Gms each of bala (Sida cordifolia), shatavari (Asparagus racemosus), Shigru (Moringa oleifera), Varuna (Crataeva nurvala), Arka (Calotropis procera), karanja (Pongamia pinnata), Eranda (Ricinus ccommunis), Koranta (sahachara) – Barleria prionitis, Vajigandha (Withania somnifera), Prasarini (Paedaria foetida), Bilva (Aegle marmelos), Shyonaka (Oroxylum indicum), Gambhari (Gmelina arborea), Patala (Stereospermum suaveolens), Agnimantha (Premna corymbosa), 1.536 liters of Taila (Oil of Sesamum indicum), 3.072 liters of ksheera (cow milk), 1.536 liters of dahi (curd), 1.536 liters of Kanjika and 24.576 liters of water for decoction filtered, boiled and brought down to 6.144 liters. Paste is prepared with 12 Gms fine powder each of consisting of many ingredients including Tagara (Valeriana wallichi), Amarakashta (Cedrus deodara), Sindhuttha (Rock sakt), Ela (Elettaria cardamomum), Shunti (Ginger), Sarshapa (Mustard) and Kalanusarika (Fenugreek).

Prabhanjanavimardanam Thailam finds use in various pain-relieving therapies and is very effective for countering pounding or pricking pain, loss of strength and numbness. The oil is used in the treatment of abscess and neuro-muscular conditions which are caused due to Vata imbalance. This medicated oil gives relief from hernia, facial palsy and abdominal colic. It is an important therapeutic means for paraplegic patients. It also helps in controlling rheumatism and arthritis especially lumbago, sciatica, lumbar spondylosis and lower back ache. Back-ache can be treated with Prabhanjanavimardanam Thailam. Abhyanga is therapeutic massage using the medicated oil. The afflicted lower back, when massaged with Prabhanjanavimardanam Thailam, alleviates the pain and provides significant relief to the sufferer. At the same time, it strengthens and nourishes the joints, bones and the soft tissues of the back.
